BS EN 1090

Any company that designs, manufactures or supplies structural steel or aluminium in the UK must ensure that the product meets the BS EN 1090 standard.

There are five parts to the standard, but only the first three are specific to steel, with parts 4 and 5 applying to aluminium products. We will cover the first of these three parts of the standard here.

  • BS EN 1090

The BS EN 1090 standard was introduced in 2014 to standardise the quality of steel products across the European Union.

All steel products must be stamped with the structural CE mark which proves the product meets the standard.

Under UK law it is a criminal offence to use steel which is not stamped with the relevant mark or to install steel in a way which does not meet the technical regulations in part 2 of the standard.
